Lakefest – The Cup Winner
Lakefest, for the last 6 years running has led the fight on plastic waste by using Happycups whom supply a innovative reusable, branded cup.
Lakefest organizer, Lee Martin / Dave Page says “we have always been aware of the amount of waste that a large event can produce and have tried to limit this. It seemed a very logical choice to only use reusable cups on our bars and backstage. People love having an official cup for their drink and we often get people bringing along cups from previous years! They also cut down on the sales of water bottles because we have drinking water available across the site and people just fill up their reusable cups. They have eliminated what could have been a huge amount of plastic waste from our event.”
The festival has proved so popular that in 2016 it had to relocate to satisfy demand after outgrowing it’s original home of Croft Farm Waterpark to Eastnor Castle. Due to be held from the 9th to the 12th August this year.
The cups are supplied by www.happcups.co.uk Peter Reynolds, MD said “I started the business 7 years ago after seeing a similar model abroad, the first few years were slow, people didn’t really get the concept. Now, with the increased focus in the UK this year on reducing disposable single-use plastic I am confident this will be our busiest year yet and we will save tons of waste from becoming landfill.”
www.happycups.co.uk estimates that more than 100 billion single-use cups go into landfill across the world each year, the Great Pacific garbage patch sized wasteland is currently twice the size of Texas and growing.
Tickets for Lakefest are on sale already, with limited availability already 2018 is proving to be the biggest and best year yet. Continually hosting a fantastic lineup that over the years has included the likes of Toploader, Ocean Colour Scene, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Ash, The Coral, Starsailor, Feeder and The Charlatans amongst many others.
