News Release – March 2018

Pentillie Castle – The Cup Winner

Pentillie Castle, the scenic Grade II listed country house based in Cornwall have taken the sustainable leap to implement reusable plastic cups at their 2018 events. In line with their green ethos and other eco-friendly projects within Cornwall the region is certainly leading the way for Britain in caring for our precious coastal waters. The new Pentillie Castle cups will have bespoke printed designs making them an attractive souvenir for guests who wish to keep them as well as a practical on site cup for events hosted at the castle.

Manager at the site, Sammie Coryton says “ we have always been aware of the huge amount of plastic waste at our outdoor events when glass is neither practical or particularly safe. Introducing reusable cups to our bars seems a logical step, particularly having seen how successful it can be at other events we have attended. An official cup seems like a perfect solution, and by having drinking water available for free, we hope they will also enable us to reduce the sale of plastic water bottles. We hope that using ‘branded cups’ will enable us to eliminate a huge amount of plastic waste this summer.”

The award-winning wedding venue contains 5 star accommodation over a 2,000 acre site making it a spectacular venue hosting a range of events, including Land Rover Defender Day, Outdoor Theatre shows and the PenGrillie BBQ Festival. Up to 2,500 visitors per day are expected, likely to drink around 6,000 glasses of beer, wines, mixers and soft drinks during the day.

The cups are supplied by www.happycups.co.uk, Peter Reynolds, MD said “I started the business 7 years ago after seeing a similar model abroad, the first few years were slow, people didn’t really get the concept. Now, with the increased focus in the UK this year on reducing disposable single-use plastic I am confident this will be our busiest year yet and we will save tons of waste from becoming landfill.”

www.happycups.co.uk estimates that more than 100 billion single-use cups go into landfill across the world each year, the Great Pacific garbage patch sized wasteland is currently twice the size of Texas and growing.

Tickets for the events upcoming events at Pentillie Castle can be purchased online at https://www.pentillie.co.uk/events/. Whether attending a wedding show, the outdoor theatre or open gardens you are sure to have a splendid time being catered for by the helpful and friendly staff on site.

Since the beginning of their journey Branded Cups have supplied almost 400,000 reusable cups saving well over 1 million disposable and biodegradable cups from landfill sites.
